10 Horror Books Worth Reading
I have read so many books related to horror, but these 10 caught my attention:
- “Dracula” by Bram Stoker: This iconic vampire novel is a must-read for any horror enthusiast, introducing the infamous Count Dracula and establishing many vampire lore conventions.
- “Frankenstein” by Mary Shelley: Often considered the first science fiction and horror novel, “Frankenstein” tells the tragic tale of Victor Frankenstein and his creation.
- “The Shining” by Stephen King: A psychological horror masterpiece about a family’s descent into madness while living in an isolated and haunted hotel.
- “The Haunting of Hill House” by Shirley Jackson: A classic haunted house story that masterfully builds suspense and psychological terror.
- “It” by Stephen King: This epic horror novel features a shape-shifting evil entity terrorizing the town of Derry, Maine, and a group of kids who confront their fears to fight back.
- “The Exorcist” by William Peter Blatty: A chilling tale of possession and exorcism that became a bestseller and a classic horror film.
- “Bird Box” by Josh Malerman: In a post-apocalyptic world, a mother and her two children must survive and evade unseen entities that cause people who see them to go mad and commit suicide.
- “House of Leaves” by Mark Z. Danielewski: A unique and deeply unsettling novel that explores the paranormal through an unconventional narrative structure.
- “The Woman in Black” by Susan Hill: A ghost story set in a remote English village, it weaves a haunting and eerie atmosphere.
- “Pet Sematary” by Stephen King: An unsettling tale about the horrors of grief, loss, and the consequences of tampering with death.
My favourite one is “The Exorcist” which is about a young girl named Regan MacNeil who is possessed and who exhibits increasingly disturbing and violent behavior. Desperate for help, her mother seeks the assistance of Father Damien Karras, a troubled priest who struggles with his faith. Together with experienced exorcist Father Lankester Merrin, they confront a malevolent demonic force that tests their beliefs and puts their lives at risk in a battle between good and evil. The novel is a chilling exploration of faith, doubt, and the supernatural, leaving readers with lingering dread and fear.
